SORAIA
OLIVEIRA
I’m Soraia, a multidisciplinary artist working with photography, drawing, self-portraiture and experimental processes.
My work begins with curiosity and a need to understand our inner selves, the body, and the spaces I move through, exploring identity, presence, and transformation.
Translating experience into art.
Soraia Oliveira is a multidisciplinary artist who graduated in Fine Arts from the School of Arts and Design in Caldas da Rainha, and further developed her artistic research through international programs at the Free University of Bolzano and the Accademia di Belle Arti in L’Aquila, Italy.
Her practice combines photography, self-portraiture, performance, and drawing, using experimentation and the body as a territory of identity, intimacy, and transformation.
Her work emerges from personal experience and a sensitive observation of everyday life, expanding into compositions that question the boundaries between presence and absence, reality and memory, and the subconscious mind.
Through experimentation and an ongoing investigation of gesture over time, Soraia creates images that function as fragments of a visual autobiography. Developing through lived experience, the practice uses the body as both subject and tool. Gesture and presence become ways of testing limits, inhabiting spaces, and allowing meaning to remain open and in transformation.
DRIVEN BY CURISOSITY
I AM
CREATIVE THINKER
DREAMER
OBSERVER
PERFORMER
MULTI-TASKER
EXPERIMENTER
AND
BOUNDARY PUSHER
It began with curiosity, but became more serious in 2019, when I started experimenting with fine arts and later with photography.
What began as an intuitive practice quickly turned into a need to tell stories. Photography became a way to explore places, perform within them, and use the body as a tool for observation and presence.
Through self-portraiture and experimentation, this research expanded into performance, drawing, and material processes, shaping a practice where intuition becomes method and the body remains central.
